Get ready for a thrilling ride! Daisy Ridley, known for her role in Star Wars and The Young Woman and the Sea, is set to star in the action-packed thriller The Good Samaritan, directed by Pierre Morel, the visionary behind Taken and Peppermint. This film promises to be a gripping adventure, and here’s what we know so far.
Highland Film Group is managing international sales, while CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group are handling U.S. domestic rights. Production is slated to begin in the spring of 2026 in Brisbane, Australia, specifically on the Gold Coast. This sets the stage for what promises to be a visually stunning and action-filled experience.
The story, penned by Matthew Ian Cirulnick, the writer of Rambo: Last Blood, centers around Dr. Rosalind Carver, a successful entrepreneur played by Ridley. Along with her husband, Mark, she rescues a wounded man off the coast of Indonesia, believing they’re saving a life. But things quickly take a dark turn. Their yacht disappears, Mark is abducted, and paradise transforms into a deadly trap. Hunted by pirates and trapped by corrupt officials, Rosalind’s only hope lies with Sean Fuller, a private military contractor whose past is as mysterious as his motives. Together, they must navigate a treacherous world where trust is a luxury they can’t afford.
The film is produced by Mark Canton and Dorothy Canton of Canton Entertainment, Oakhurst Pictures, Renee Tab of Sentient Entertainment, and David Hopwood. Executive producers include Morel, Matthew Ian Cirulnick, Ryan Winterstern, and Delphine Perrier and Arianne Fraser from Highland Film Group, with Karley Ferlic of Canton Entertainment serving as co-producer.
Pierre Morel shared his enthusiasm, stating, “What I love about Matt’s writing is the raw realism of the characters and their intense predicament, elevated by the Hitchcockian, noirish collision of two damaged souls from opposite worlds.” He also praised Daisy Ridley, noting her intelligence and ability to handle pressure. This hints at a complex, character-driven story.
Arianne Fraser, CEO of Highland Film Group, added that they are thrilled to work with Morel and Ridley on this high-stakes thriller, highlighting the excitement of seeing Ridley’s character push her limits. Mark Canton echoed this sentiment, expressing his delight in collaborating with Morel and Ridley on what he calls a complex and electrifying thriller.
But here’s where it gets controversial… Could the story’s focus on a private military contractor raise questions about the ethics of such organizations? What are your thoughts on this?
And this is the part most people miss… The film’s setting in a foreign land and the themes of deceit and survival suggest a narrative filled with suspense and unexpected twists. Will the film live up to the promise of a thrilling experience?
