Ghana’s Mango Industry: TCDA, Exporters, and Growers Unite for a Fair Minimum Price

Farmers, exporters, and the future of Ghana’s mango industry – it all comes down to price!

The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) has just announced a landmark agreement, setting the minimum farmgate price for fresh mangoes for the 2025 minor season. This decision, reached in collaboration with the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) and the National Mango Growers Association (NMGA), is a crucial step towards stabilizing the market.

At the heart of this agreement is a minimum producer price of GHS 4.18 per kilogram. This figure isn’t just a number; it’s a promise of fairer returns for the hardworking farmers who cultivate these delicious fruits.

The meeting, spearheaded by TCDA CEO Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, was designed to foster collaboration and address long-standing issues surrounding pricing, farmer welfare, and fairness across the value chain. Dr. Okrah, who participated virtually, emphasized the TCDA’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth within Ghana’s mango industry. He highlighted that a transparent pricing structure is key to protecting farmers’ livelihoods while also keeping exporters and processors competitive.

Representatives from FAGE and NMGA have hailed the agreed price as a positive development, fostering trust and cooperation among all stakeholders. Setting a clear price benchmark before the season begins offers much-needed certainty for planning, production, and export operations.

This initiative is part of TCDA’s broader strategy to improve value chain governance across the tree crops sector. The goal is to ensure that farmers receive fair compensation, supporting Ghana’s position as a major player in the global mango market.

But here’s where it gets controversial…
