Keen to give your mascara a rest from time to time? To get those long, voluminous eyelashes and healthy-looking eyebrows that don't require any retouching, we suggest adding one of the best lash and brow serums to your beauty shopping list.
These makeup bag must-haves contain active ingredients – such as vitamin B5, proteins and natural extracts – that nourish and condition your follicles for luscious, soft lashes. Targeting and working with your natural hair cycle, they can also work wonders for those sparse brows you feared would never grow back (we know, the crimes against brows we committed in the nineties and noughties).
In a bid to find the growth serums that really work, the Good Housekeeping Institute recruited a panel of beauty testers to put a range of market-leading products to the test for two months. These are the ones that earned their seal of approval in a handy list, but scroll on for their full reviews.

Pair your new luscious lashes with one of our best mascaras, and keep those brows bushy with one of our best brow products.
How we test
We asked our panel of 345 testers to use one of 23 lash and brow serums for two months. They reported back on any changes to sparser brows (if using a brow product) or any eyelash growth (if using a lash serum), assessed ease of application and performance, and let us know if they experienced any irritation.
Back at the Good Housekeeping Institute, our expert testers used a VISIA photo analysis machine to measure any improvements in the volume and length of lashes, right down to the last 0.1 of a millimetre.
Score: 85/100
With our lab test showing an impressive 14% increase in length and 8% improvement in volume of lashes, it’s no surprise that this serum topped our test.
The majority of our panel noticed an improvement in their lashes within 5-6 weeks, with many commenting that their lashes looked longer and the conditioner even made their mascara look better. The product was easy to use thanks to a thin applicator brush and it dried quickly upon application.

Invisible when applied, this product scored highly with our testers for ease of use, design and product instructions. They also liked the lightweight consistency as it didn't feel too heavy or oily.
Many noticed an improvement in the fullness of their brows and saw growth where hair was normally sparse. They also said the hair looked thicker and felt stronger.
There was a slight cooling effect when applying the product, which our panel found refreshing. There was no residue left on the brows when used at night and it didn't stain clothing or bedsheets either.

This lightweight, non-greasy product, again from Talika, did well in our lab test, managing to improve lash volume by 8% over an eight week period.
Testers loved the consistency of the formulation, which wasn't sticky or greasy, and almost everyone agreed that it wasn’t too heavy. Lashes were left feeling conditioned, glossy and more separated, too.
Most testers said they noticed a growth in areas where hairs were normally sparse as well as improvements in the length of their lashes – one even stopped using their lash extensions because they were so happy with the results.

This premium growth serum is definitely an investment, but it aced our lab test for volumising and lengthening lashes.
Enriched with vitamin B3, it left our panel with longer, thicker lashes that also looked healthier overall. The brush allowed our testers to deposit their desired amount of the lightweight, gel-like product, helping to eliminate any wastage. It dried quickly, without leaving a sticky or oily residue, with the majority reporting improvements in four weeks.

Testers noticed an improvement in their brows in just three to four weeks of using this product. They also raved about how it improved the condition of their lashes and made them feel softer.
When it came to brows, the majority of testers noticed more growth in areas where the hairs were sparse or over-plucked, such as the under brow.
They said hair grew thicker and stronger as well. Mascara went on easily over the product and most testers agreed that the formulation wasn't irritating to the eyes or skin.

The verdict on brow and lash serums
Our lab tests proved that our winning lash serum, the RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Serum can deliver some serious results in just a few weeks, so it’s worth the investment if you want longer, thicker lashes. But there’s no need to break the bank for a bolder look, as the Mavala Double Lash serum is the most affordable on our list (at under £20), yet still received praise from our testing panel for its lengthening abilities.
If brows are where you want to focus on regrowth, then we suggest trying Talika's Lipocils Expert Eyebrow Serum, a lightweight formula that left our panellists' brows feeling thicker.
